SuSE Linux

The S.u.S.E 10.2 distribution of Linux is one of the best that is available. The official release comes with lots of documentation in the form of some very well produced manuals. Technical support for SuSE 10.2 can be good.  If you can possibly download several ISO images then it's best to use the openSuSE version which you can find at the openSuSE web site.  There are some mailing lists at that site which you can use to obtain support.

X11 Window Managers   ......................Window Managers for Linux are many and complex.  Try this page if you want to know more.  You could be here for some time.

Network and Samba problems . . . . . Samba and network cards can just ruin a complete year if things go badly wrong. There is a great deal of advice about this on the internet, from books, and even people.

Sound Card Configuration . . . . . . . . There are many types of sound cards which persist in defeating the most technically competent Linux users. I've seen many sound support pages. Too many folk like to make a simple subject more complicated.

Connecting to an ISP . . . . . . . . . . . . Using Kppp and connecting to the internet through dialup can be very easy. There are other methods of course. These are discussed here. If you want to use ISDN2e or Home Highway with a dialup connection then please do have a look at this.  We hope to add some ADSL stuff in here soon.

Configuring your Mail System ........... Sendmail and Fetchmail configuration can be very confusing.  This should help you out a bit.

FAQs and Howtos. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . I've found from my own experiences that some of the Howtos that are available on the internet are not too well written. I know that the FAQs and Howtos that come with the CDs can be much better although, even they are a bit wonky sometimes.
