Help with configuring your sound card

Since the 7.xx series of SuSE Linux came along Alsa which is an SuSE sponsored project is now the default sound driver.  In the 8.xx versions of SuSE Linux YaST2 in both it's console form and in it's X-windows incarnation can be used to detect and configure a sound card.   Sound card or chip configuration is therefore an automated experience which should only take a few seconds.  If you do have any problems then have a look at the very much out of date instructions below which were written for early versions of SuSE software.

There are many sound cards. Almost as many as there are types of machines. I've found from my own experiences that sound cards can be the most difficult problem to sort out other than network cards. Alsa is one of the more interesting Linux sound projects. There are many more. SuSE can be made to run with it's own sound configuration software but, sometimes one type of card may need some extra help with a bit more software. In the 6.1 and 6.2 releases the OSS sound system has been given away for people who buy the official boxed set.   For more info see the SuSE manual.  See also........   http://www.opensound.com .  You might also want to have a look at these...........

There are many other examples which can be found by searching the internet. Although the info shown above should help quite a bit :-)
