Meetings for 2001

Meetings for 2001 proved to be varied and highly dramatic.  Many things took place and many people learned a lot and had their computers fixed.

The January 2001 meeting proved to be something of a surprise.  Quite a few people turned up for the first meeting of the year.  January is usually our quiet month but this year things would seem to be different
February was just as warm and friendly a session as was January.  We even had a visitor from King Edward VII school at Glossop Road in Sheffield
We had a second meeting in late February.  SuSE had announced the release of SuSE 7.1 and Ruediger Berlich  made a welcome return to Sheffield and Blackwell's bookshop to once again give us a demo of the latest release.
The March meeting turned out to be a friendly and sociable affair with local people who wanted to ask a lot of questions.
April saw Rusty Russell come to Sheffield on the way back home to Oz.  Many people turned up at Blackwell's  to see and listen to Rusty's talk.  This was the month that the West Street branch of Blackwell's closed down.  A great surprise to all of us.
After Blackwell's closed down we had to find a new place to meet.  Fortunately for all of us Sheffield Hallam University have conference rooms so we moved over there and found a new home that is very comfortable
The June meeting was a jolly affair.   We didn't get great numbers due to the fact that not many of us had worked out where the new meeting room was just yet.
July saw more people turning up and a greater interest in GNU/Linux in the local area.
The August meeting was fairly progressive.  Many people arrived for the meting and some had their computers sorted out.
September saw a continuation of the small crowd that is now our LUG.  It's no longer a case of trying to find people but more a case of being killed in the rush.
October was a bit of a special ocassion.  Dr Owen le Blanc came over from Manchester Computing Centre to give us a talk about network security.  The room was packed out and some of us couldn't sit down .
The November meeting wasn't exactly under crowded.  Many things were covered that afternoon and several people had their computers fixed.

The pre-Christmas meeting was packed out.  Most people thought it was a good meeting and we look forward to more of them.
